WBDBO: Weerstand tegen Brand Doorslag en Brand Overslag
De WBDBO is onderdeel van het Bouwbesluit. In het wbdbo bouwbesluit draait alles om de brandveiligheid. De WBDBO is samengesteld uit drie deelaspecten:
1. Stabiliteit
Met name belangrijk voor dragende elementen:
De weerstand tegen branddoorslag en overslag (wbdbo) is de tijd waarin het betreffende element gedurende een brand alsnog zijn dragende functie houdt.
2. Thermische isolatie
De thermische isolatie zegt iets over de tijd waarin de kant die niet blootgesteld is aan het vuur niet boven een bepaalde thermische drempel komt.
3. Vlamdichtheid
De vlamdichtheid geldt specifiek voor scheidingselementen en omvat de tijd waarin de vlammen zich niet over de niet-blootgestelde kant van de wand verspreiden.

Brandwerendheid
Brandwerendheid en de brand componenten uit het wbdbo bouwbesluit zijn niet hetzelfde. Brandwerendheid gaat over bepaalde onderdelen en zegt iets over hoe lang het duurt voordat de brand doorslaat. Anders gezegd: hoe lang een bepaalde constructie bestand blijft tegen de brand. Wbdbo gaat over brandcompartimenten. De beoordeling hiervan is niet 1-2-3 te maken. Dit heeft mede te maken met het feit dat veel compartimenten niet altijd direct zichtbaar zijn. Daarbij komt dat, ondanks dat er verklaringen zijn afgegeven die stellen dat aan alle regels voldaan is, het voor kan komen dat de constructie niet op de juiste manier is geïnstalleerd. Het moge duidelijk zijn dat dit consequenties heeft voor de weerstand tegen de brand door- en overslag.
